Elon Musk announced Friday that his social networking company X will end a feature that allowed users to block posts on other accounts. “The block will be removed as a ‘feature,’ except for private messaging,” Musk wrote, pointing to a “direct messaging” option between users of the social network (formerly known as Twitter). This feature is used to prevent interaction with other accounts on the website. Musk has repeatedly cited the need for free speech as a motivation for his reforms and has criticized what he sees as a threat to free speech from changing culture. Ad revenue has been falling since the entrepreneur bought the social network for $44 billion last October, in part due to the easing of anti-defamation measures and the return of previously banned accounts. X recently reinstated rapper-producer Kanye West's account, and eight months later, he's back as a rapper-producer. The account has been suspended, according to media reports. Last fall, Musk suspended the artist after West, who worked for Yeh, posted a photo of a swastika associated with the Star of David.
