In Panevezys there is an ash tree decorated with thousands of keys.
It is no coincidence that the key hangs on this tree. After excavation, a box containing seventy keys was found near the ash tree, all locked together. According to historians, keys were of more than practical importance to ancient people. There are still so-called symbol keys. They were not used for locks, but were hung prominently in the house as a kind of home protection, as a kind of talisman. The Key Tree is very popular with newlyweds who, instead of padlocking the bridge, come to Birutė Street to hang their keys and hope it will bring good luck.
